SLB: excellent capital returns on a flat volume story
Capital returns are genuinely excellent and the underlying volume story is flat. That is a fine reason to own it and a poor reason to add here.

The economics turn on share count. Buybacks raise per-share metrics without improving the asset, so the quality of the business and the trajectory of its per-share earnings can diverge for years.
The share count is the clearest evidence. It has fallen meaningfully over two years while production volumes were flat, which fully accounts for the per-share improvement.
The position: no call. This is a name I want to own and not at this level, so there is nothing locked here and nothing for the record to grade. If the entry improves I will say so in a piece that does carry a call.
Policy reversal on storage support would not break merchant economics directly but would change the competitive set quickly enough to compress returns.
